From staff reportsNovember 15, 2013

— A man suspected of assaulting a woman was found in the attic of a North Raleigh apartment.

Rodney Denel Smith, 26, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, strangulation, assault on a female and emergency-communications interference after police were summoned to a domestic dispute at 1009 Fox Hunt Lane on Friday afternoon.

Officers initially thought Smith might have left the Hunting Ridge apartment complex, according to a Raleigh Police Department spokesman.

Then department scrambled specialized units to the complex and obtained warrants for several charges.

Further searching led to Smith, who was hiding in the building’s attic, and he was taken into custody around 5 p.m., according to police. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Smith was armed.

Smith, a resident of 6 Woodsprite Court in Durham, is unemployed, according to an arrest report. The amount of his bond wasn’t immediately reported.
