Lola S. Delbridge: Giving credit for nothing

November 16, 2013

The Oct. 30 N&O news article “Wake could ban ‘zero’ grades,” was very disturbing. The lowest common denominator wins again. Isn’t it simple math that zero does not equal 50?

Giving 50 percent credit for no performance and allowing exams to be taken over seems grossly unfair to the student who prepares their best for the scheduled exam.

To make matters worse, it is proposed to guarantee credit for lte work. It gets clearer every day why people expect something for nothing, perform poorly and contribute less and less to society.

How sad that we belittle ambition and accept low standards. Heaven help our country. We are our own worst enemy.
