Fresno, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Johnson recorded a double-double as one of five players in double figures for the Fresno State Bulldogs, who bested the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 80-64, in a non-conference tilt at the Save Mart Center.
Johnson finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Paul Watson added 13 and Marvelle Harris tacked on 12 points and nearly had a double-double himself with nine rebounds for Fresno State (2-1). Cezar Guerrero and Karachi Edo also got in the mix with 10 points apiece with Guerrero also handing out nine assists
Josh Green scored 17 points, Stephan Hicks tallied 16 points and eight rebounds and Stephen Maxwell pitched in 13 points for Cal State Northridge (1-2).
The Bulldogs grabbed a 41-27 lead at halftime by shooting at a 53.6 percent clip in the first half while holding the Matadors to just 37.9 percent shooting.
Even though the Matadors improved to 51.9 percent shooting after the break, the Bulldogs were still able to capture the victory by a wide margin by shooting at a 57.1 percent rate themselves.
Fresno State had a 36-24 edge on the glass and outscored the Matadors in the paint, 44-30.
