Raleigh man charged with abusing child five years ago

— A Raleigh man was being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail Monday and was scheduled for a first court appearance on charges of rape and sexual offense in 2008 and 2009 involving a girl.

Police charged Edvin Javier Argueta, 32, of 3909 Falmouth Drive on Friday.

Arrest warrants said the incidents happened in 2008, when the girl was 8, and 2009.

The charges are two counts of first-degree rape, four counts of first-degree sexual offense and failing to appear in court on unrelated driving charges from 2010 and 2011.

Police said Argueta and the girl were acquainted beforehand.
