DURHAM — A teenager became the second person arrested in a fatal shooting this month in the area of Morning Glory Avenue and Belt Street.
Markecio Barker, 16, of Durham was arrested Monday afternoon near the intersection of Woodcrest Street and Rochelle Street by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Fugitive Task Force. He was charged with murder.
Bicycle officers on patrol heard shots around 3:45 p.m. Nov. 5 and found Jevontez Deshawn Massey, 22, of Durham lying in the street on Morning Glory Avenue. He had been shot and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
About two and a half hours later, K-9 Sgt. Lamont Minor spotted a possible suspect hiding in the woods near the shooting scene. Officers chased the suspect for several blocks and caught him.
Christopher Alexander Hicks, 21, of Durham was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was placed in Durham County Jail without bond.
