Charlotte Bobcats Observations

November 19, 2013

•  Charlotte Bobcats center Al Jefferson missed his seventh game (in 10 possible appearances) Monday. Jefferson did not travel with the team to Chicago, but coach Steve Clifford sounded hopeful Jefferson (bone bruise, right ankle) would be back on the court by Friday’s home game against the Phoenix Suns.

•  Just about the first thing Clifford did when he got to United Center was go to the home locker room to find Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. Thibs is a mentor to Clifford and one of his closest friends in coaching. They met when Clifford became an advance scout with the New York Knicks. Thibs was already there as one of Jeff Van Gundy’s assistants.

Clifford said Thibodeau was particularly helpful early teaching him how to effectively relate to pros, versus college players. Clifford and Thibodeau were both assistants when Van Gundy went to the Houston Rockets.

•  There was a woman at courtside wearing a bright green Michael Jordan No. 23 Bulls jersey. I’m guessing it must have been some sort of St. Patrick’s Day promotion years ago.

•  You know how Charlotte is very much a weekend town? The Bobcats struggle to sell tickets early in the week versus Fridays and Saturdays. Not in Chicago. The place was packed Monday.
