Holly Springs man loses $9,300 in home-repair scam

— A Holly Springs man lost $9,300 to a home improvement scam, according to a charge from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

Roger Dale Simmons, 46, is charged with collecting the money under false pretense as advance payment for a home repair job.

Simmons is listed as a resident both of 8371 Hollister Hills Drive in Raleigh and of Richmond, Va. in arrest warrants. He is an employee of Eastern Refinishing, according to an arrest report.

Simmons also is accused of identity theft and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery, related to an accusation that he illegally identified himself as a physician assistant in order to acquire Adderall. He also is accused of failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge and may face extradition from another state, county records state.

Simmons was being held Wednesday at the Wake County Detention Center, his bail set at $420,000. He was arrested Wednesday and due to appear in court Thursday.
