Suspicious package causes road closure in Chapel Hill

From staff reportsNovember 22, 2013

— A suspicious package that was found smoldering in the intersection of East Franklin Street and Elliott Road disrupted traffic for a time Thursday night.

Police closed off the area and called the bomb squad from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office as a precaution.

“It would be determined that the device was not an explosive,” Lt. Kevin Gunter said early Friday, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic were allowed to resume.

Police did not disclose what was found in the package.
