Four Raleigh high schools students graduated this summer from The American Legion Tar Heel Boys State Program at Catawba College in Salisbury.

The one-week program offers a simulated experience in government leadership, including campaigning, crafting legislation and public speaking. Participants are selected for the program by American Legion posts based on character, leadership and commitment to the community.

Attending from Raleigh were Carson D. Ellerby of Leesville Road High School, Evan W. Haynes of Southeast Raleigh High School, Roderick E. Hodge II of Enloe High School and Desmond J. Smalley of Southeast Raleigh High School. All four were rising seniors and were sponsored by Charles T. Norwood American Legion Post 157 in Raleigh.
