Angier man charged with murder in Wake County stabbing

From staff reportsNovember 25, 2013

— A man from Angier was due in court Monday to face a murder charge in the stabbing death of another man at a mobile home near Fuquay-Varina.

Wake County sheriff’s deputies arrested Jose Luis Tovar Balencia, 38, of 124 Kay Lane in Angier shortly after they found Leobardo Sol Garcia dead about 4:30 a.m. Sunday at a mobile home off Holland Road, spokesman Capt. James Stevens said.

Witnesses “gave us a good description,” Stevens said, and deputies and State Highway Patrol troopers saw Balencia on foot near N.C. 55 and Old Honeycutt Road a short time later.

Balencia was injured when deputies found him, Stevens said, and there appeared to have been a fight before the stabbing.

Balencia was being held without bond, which is standard procedure in murder cases.

Because of the felony charge, federal immigration officials asked the sheriff’s office to hold Balencia for 48 hours while they checked whether he is in the country legally from El Salvador.
