— Police received a call about a bank robbery at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday, and four minutes later charged Robert Thomas Fitzwater, 30, with the crime.

Employees at the KS Bank at 920 Seventh Ave. gave police a description of the man who passed a note demanding money, they said, and Platoon Leader Grant Davis noticed Fitzwater near apartments across the street from the bank.

Police said Fitzwater ran when Davis approached him, but officers chased him down and arrested him at 12:12 p.m.

Fitzwater, of 2016 Obedient Lane in Apex, was charged with common law robbery and was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail for a first court appearance Wednesday.

The robber did not show any weapons and fled with $1,070, according to an arrest warrant for Fitzwater.

No one was hurt in the holdup or the chase, police said.
