I read with great interest the Nov. 23 article “Businesses plan big push on education” about BEST NC. I think it is commendable that some of the most prominent business and civic leaders in our state recognize the link between education and prosperity and that they are standing together to promote common-sense, nonpartisan solutions to our worsening education crisis.
It’s a shame that our elected leaders can’t be bothered to do so. And isn’t it ironic that a Google search of “BEST NC education” finds multiple results for the “NC Education Lottery” (really, just try it). Didn’t instituting the lottery solve all our education funding problems? No? Maybe under-paying our teachers and discouraging them from pursuing master’s degrees will work!
