Victim in fatal Cary accident was an airman at NC base

From staff reportsNovember 28, 2013

— The Air Force said Thursday that the serviceman killed in an accident on U.S. 1 in Cary was a sergeant assigned to Pope Army Air Field at Fort Bragg.

Tech. Sgt. Eduardo R. Rivas, 33, died Wednesday morning when a car hit him while he was checking damage to his own car after skidding on the road about 5:40 a.m. on the northbound side of the road near the U.S. 64 interchange.

Rivas was assigned to the 682nd Air Support Operations Squadron, 18th Air Support Operations Group, Air Combat Command, a spokesman said.

He lived in Moore County.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that Rivas’ car and the one that hit him had hydroplaned on the wet highway.
