Nassau, Bahamas (SportsNetwork.com) - James Bell led five Villanova players in double figures with 17 points as the Wildcats posted a 94-79 win over Southern California in the opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
Darrun Hilliard added 16 points for the still-unbeaten Wildcats (5-0), who await a matchup with No. 2 Kansas in Friday's semifinals after the Jayhawks downed Wake Forest later in the day.
Ryan Arcidiacono and Dylan Ennis contributed 14 points apiece to the victory, with JayVaughn Pinkston finishing with 12.
USC (4-2) had a four-game win streak snapped despite 23 points from Pe'Shon Howard and a 15-point, 10-rebound effort out of Byron Wesley. The Trojans will face Wake Forest in the consolation round.
Villanova began the contest on an 11-2 run, during which Arcidiacono, Hilliard and Bell all knocked down 3-pointers, and never trailed at any stage. The Wildcats ended the afternoon 11-of-28 from beyond the arc.
The Trojans closed within 27-26 on a 3-point play from Howard with 6:29 to go in the opening period, but Villanova countered with an 11-2 run capped by an Arcidiacono three to go up by double digits. The Wildcats cruised into the break owning a 48-37 advantage.
USC never got the deficit under nine points in the second half.
