Thomas F. Crudele: Retaining Becoats wrong

November 29, 2013

The Durham school board’s decision to retain Superintendent Eric Becoats’ services until June 2016 is not only disgraceful but also very disappointing (Nov. 26 news story). What kind of message are we sending to the youth of America? Rewarding misbehavior and poor judgment at $216,000 per year is just plain wrong and should not be tolerated. I guess “common sense” is not a prerequisite for such an important position.

If most people were to misuse their company credit cards or vehicles, they would be fired without a batted eyelash. How does Becoats look in the mirror every morning and feel good about himself? The Durham school board simply made the wrong decision and should be ashamed!
