Duke vs. UNC: They said it

November 30, 2013

“So many young men doing exactly what you ask them to do as well as they can possibly do it. What you get right down to what you want to train young folks to do, it’s that: be where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’re supposed to be doing as well as you can possibly do it. That’s our one team rule, and that means on the practice field, in the classroom and socially. I have never been around a group of young men that have done that better.” – Duke coach David Cutcliffe

“(I’m) disappointed for our seniors that played in Kenan and the Tar Pit for the last time. We didn’t get to send them out the right way, but we didn’t play well enough to win a football game. There are a lot of things you can look at in this game that we didn’t do and we didn’t accomplish and that’s the reason you don’t win a football game.” – UNC coach Larry Fedora

“I will say this: I’m going to say thank you DeVon Edwards. He has put in a lot of hard work.” – Duke cornerback Ross Cockrell

“It hurts to see us just pretty much stick a thorn in our own sides. It hurts, because that’s how you win ballgames – by not committing stupid penalties. By playing good ball. I just don’t believe that we played to our best ability today, not like we’ve been playing the five other weeks (during UNC’s five-game winning streak). But it happens.” – UNC safety Tre Boston

“It’s going to take time to sink in. I’m kind of on Cloud 13. It’s surreal in a way, but at the same time, we knew that we could win this game, and we expected to.” – Duke offensive guard Dave Harding
