Anne Marie Hagerty of Raleigh was one of 98 girls selected for this year’s American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation in Washington, D.C.

Two students are chosen from each state to serve as “senators” at Girls Nation, a leadership conference that allows participants to experience the workings of government and learn more about civics in America.

Previously, at the N.C. Girls State program, Anne Marie was elected mayor of her city by her peers and held the position of national party chair.
