RALEIGH — State troopers responded to 10 fatal crashes during the Thanksgiving weekend, one fewer than last year, the State Highway Patrol said Monday.
None of the fatal crashes happened in the Triangle.
Troopers blamed excessive speed as a factor in several of the deadly crashes.
The total listed by the highway patrol does not include crashes investigated by local police, including the death of two men in a crash in Raleigh on Friday night.
Troopers investigate crashes that occur outside municipal boundaries.
The holiday period began at 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 and ran through midnight Sunday.
