Friday night heroes: Brant Grisel is player of the week

Middle Creek quarterback Brant Grisel rolls out during Garner's third-round playoff game at Middle Creek on Friday.


Player of the week: Brant Grisel of Middle Creek completed 34 of 57 passes for 413 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-21 victory over Garner.

Defense of the week: Middle Creek allowed Garner only one offensive touchdown in a 24-21 victory.

Special teams player of the week: Zack Coates of Wake Forest booted a 29-yard field goal in the fourth overtime to lift the Cougars to a 27-24 victory over Millbrook.

Brayden Sims, Garner: Caught a touchdown pass, recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown and blocked a punt in a 24-21 loss to Middle Creek.

Jay Schuller and Curtis Burston, Middle Creek: Burston caught eight passes for 127 yards and Schuller caught 11 passes for 116 yards in a 24-21 win over Garner.

Marquavious Johnson, Knightdale: Ran for 153 yards in a 24-17 loss to Scotland County.

Maurice Trowell, Southern Durham: Had eight catches for 126 yards in a 31-24 victory over Orange. Spartans quarterback Kendall Hinton passed for 222 yards in the win.

Garrett Cloer, Orange: Completed 11 of 16 passes for 147 yards in a 31-24 loss to Southern Durham.
