New medical director for state Medicaid office named

Posted by Lynn Bonner on December 2, 2013

The state Medicaid office has a new medical director, Dr. Nancy Henley.

She starts work Dec. 19, according to an email to state Medicaid employees. Henley replaces Dr. Randall Best.

Henley is now a clinical associate professor of medicine at UNC and a consultant with the health care consulting firm.

Hensley's move marks a return to the state Department of Health and Human Services. She was deputy director of clinical affairs in the Medicaid office for a few years in the early 2000s. She also worked at the state health plan for a few years as medical director.

Notable for a department looking to turn the current Medicaid system into managed care, Henley worked for Carolina Permanente early in her medical career. Carolina Permanente was a managed care consortium based in California.
