UNC student awakes to find man in her dorm room

From staff reportsDecember 6, 2013

— A UNC Chapel Hill student awoke early Friday in a dormitory to find a man in her room, but she was not hurt, university police said in a crime alert to the campus.

The student told police the man was there about 2:40 a.m., they said.

The man was described as white and wearing a dark T-shirt, and the woman said she saw no weapon.

Police did not disclose whether anything was missing from the room in Lewis Residence Hall after the man fled when the student awoke.

Lewis is a three-story building on Raleigh Street near the Coker Arboretum, where some assaults have been reported.

UNC police asked anyone with information about this incident to call them at 919-962-8100 or to contact the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515, and they noted that all calls are confidential and anonymous.

They also can submit information to the Crime Stoppers website.

Police reminded students to lock their doors and to never allow a stranger to go in with them when they open a dormitory door.
