Ted Raper: Restaurant rights

December 8, 2013

The writer of the Nov. 22 letter “Unwelcome patron” who is angry about being unwelcome in a downtown restaurant because of carrying a concealed weapon kind of confuses her own point. Just as it is her lawful right to carry the gun, it is also the restaurant owner’s lawful right to refuse service to people carrying a weapon.

And as an aside, what exactly would the writer be so afraid of in a restaurant that would make carrying a weapon necessary? If I think of going someplace that is so dangerous I need to carry a gun, then maybe I would just avoid going there in the first place.
