Road closed, 40 homes lose water service in Cary pipe break

From staff reportsDecember 11, 2013

— A water main in Cary broke Wednesday morning, undermining Gentlewoods Drive and knocking out service to about 40 homes and a half-dozen fire hydrants in the area.

Town spokeswoman Carrie Roman said the break left the houses without water, and about 11 homes were in the section of Gentlewoods Drive that was closed, from Breyman Court to Parson Woods Lane.

The fire department said a half-dozen fire hydrants in the area were out of service because of the break.

Police closed the road shortly after 6 a.m.

Roman said crews hoped to have repairs to the pipe and the road finished by 5 p.m.

Posted detours direct drivers to use Southglen Drive to Killingsworth Drive and Kelekent Lane to Hassellwood Drive, Roman said.
