DURHAM — Police arrested a man a half-hour after a robbery at a BB&T bank branch Tuesday afternoon and charged him with that holdup, two earlier ones and an attempted robbery.
Police had a description of a robber who went into the bank at 5028 N. Roxboro St. about 2:45 p.m., and they stopped Wayne Leon Weeks, 59, of Durham about 30 minutes later at Valley Drive and Holt School Road, about a mile away.
Police said they found evidence from the robbery and arrested Weeks.
He also is charged with a Nov. 26 robbery at Carter Bank & Trust at 4251 N. Roxbury St., a Dec. 5 holdup at a BB&T branch at 107 N.C. 54 and an attempted robbery at Yadkin Bank at 115 E. Carver St.
Weeks was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one county of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and was being held in the Durham County Jail on $1 million bail.
Police did not disclose the contents of the notes used in the three holdups and the attempted holdup, but state law allows a person to be charged with use of a dangerous weapon if the person had a weapon or threatened use of any firearms or other dangerous weapon, implement or means.
