Howard Wasserman: Worthy additions

December 11, 2013

Each day I peruse the day’s birthdays on Page 2A. Almost without exception, the birthday boys and girls are singers, musicians and actors. Many of these performers will be long forgotten after the next musical change of wind or new TV season.

I long for seeing added to the list the birthdays of people who have had a greater and sustainable impact on local, national and global society. I suggest, as a start, including the birthdays of living Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners.

I’m sure you can come up with other worthy groups. If room becomes an issue, there are many performers of profound insignificance who can be culled from the daily listing. No one will notice. By the way, I really enjoy “Today in History.”
