Knightdale police charge man swindled rental store customers with discount scheme

From staff reportsDecember 12, 2013

— Police arrested a Raleigh man Wednesday on charges that he swindled customers at an Aaron's rental store by taking money to apply his employee discount on their accounts, then not doing it.

Knightdale police charged Timothy Patrick, 46, of 2941 Britmass Drive with four counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. In arrest warrants, Detective Orlando Soto said Patrick took payoffs of $2,496, $1,267, $280 and $100 on occasions between May 21 and Aug. 15.

The scheme involved Patrick’s telling people he would use his employee discount to have a lower charge applied to their rental accounts if they paid him money to do it, according to the charges. The arrest report indicates that Patrick no longer works for Aaron’s.

Police also served a warrant charging Patrick with probation violation in Fulton County, Ga., but the warrant does not provide details from Georgia authorities. Patrick was being held in the Wake County Detention Center in lieu of $230,000 bail.
