Recap: Xavier vs. Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Martin scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds as the Xavier Musketeers took care of the Cincinnati Bearcats, 64-47, in a non-conference showdown at US Bank Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for Xavier (8-3) was James Farr with 10 points, adding six boards before fouling out, while Matt Stainbrook accounted for a game-high 11 rebounds, seven points and four steals in the team's third straight victory.

The Bearcats (7-2), losers of two in a row after opening the campaign with a seven-game win streak, were led by Sean Kilpatrick with 17 points and Shaquille Thomas 13.

Xavier assumed control right out of the gate, shooting a sizzling 65.0 percent from the field, including 6-of-9 beyond the arc in the first half, in order to claim a 41-25 advantage at the break.

In the second half the lead reached as high as 22 for the Musketeers, but the team shot only 9-of-19 from the floor in the frame, before taking the 17-point win.

Xavier converted an impressive 11-of-16 shots beyond the arc, allowing the squad to overcome an unsightly 20 turnovers. Cincinnati, which shot a mere 14- of-26 at the free-throw line, was dominated on the glass, 33-20.
