Greeley, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Tate Unruh scored 24 points and collected 10 rebounds as the Northern Colorado Bears rallied for a 63-60 victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.
Unruh connected on 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range and Derrick Barden added 14 points for Northern Colorado (6-2).
Chris Patton tallied 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench for UC Riverside (3-6). Steven Thornton chipped in 11 points and Taylor Johns tacked on 10.
The Bears had a 29-26 lead at halftime. During the first period Northern Colorado sank just 39.3 percent of its field goal attempts but UC Riverside shot at a 36 percent rate.
Both teams improved after the break with the Bears connecting on 52 percent from the floor while the Highlanders hit on 46.2 percent. Despite the shooting advantage, with just over three minutes to play, the Bears trailed by a 60-56 score. However, sparked by a dunk and layup from Barden, they ended the game on a 7-0 run to pull out the victory.
Northern Colorado had a slight edge on points in the paint (28-24). The game featured eight ties and 11 lead changes.
