Four Oaks man faces murder, robbery charges in death of man found along road

From staff reportsDecember 17, 2013

— A Four Oaks man has been charged with robbery and murder in the death of a man found shot and lying along the side of Hannah Creek Road on Monday morning.

Detectives have charged Anthony Edward Messer, 31, who they said is known as Andy, with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

They said Messer, of Stewart Road in Four Oaks, was the person who robbed and shot 62-year-old Billy Watson Strickland of U.S. 701 South in Four Oaks.

Sheriff Steve Bizzell did not say whether Messer and Strickland knew each other.

Messer was being held without bail in the Johnston County Jail for a court appearance Tuesday.
