RALEIGH — Utility crews need to work on a sewer line for a student apartment and retail project near N.C. State University, so a short section of Hillsborough Street has been closed to traffic until Jan. 5.
One block of Hillsborough, from Dixie Trail west to Daisy Street, was closed Thursday. An adjoining block west from Daisy to Concord Street will close Tuesday, Dec. 24.
Detours are to be posted, directing drivers to use Brooks Avenue, Wade Avenue and Faircloth Street. Some drivers will find their own way using shorter routes, or by avoiding Hillsborough Street.
The work was scheduled over the holidays when NCSU students are away and there’s less traffic on Hillsborough. It’s for the five-story Stanhope Center being built by developer John Kane. Kane agreed to adjust the schedule after Hillsborough merchants complained.
