Italian food manufacturer to open plant in Rocky Mount, create 56 jobs

An Italian food manufacturer plans to open a nut butter operation in Nash County that is expected to employ 56 people within three years.

Nutkao USA will invest more than $7.3 million in the facility in Rocky Mount, about 60 miles east of Raleigh, Gov. Pat McCrory’s office announced Thursday.

The company makes nut-based spreads, creams and fillings as well as hazelnut butter and milk and dark chocolate spreads.

Nutkao is eligible to receive a $220,000 grant from the One North Carolina fund. The grant requires a local match and the company must meet investment and job-creation milestones.

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $35,790, plus benefits. The Nash County average is $35,450.
