Ronni Margolin: Rucho’s contempt

December 19, 2013

N.C. Sen. Bob Rucho’s recent tweet comparing the ACA to terrorism and Nazism shines a bright light on the mean-spirited, sensationalist and vitriolic attitudes of the opponents of the Obama administration. It also reveals their disrespect and disregard for a sizable proportion of their neighbors, especially neighbors whose histories includes misfortune and oppression.

None of this is surprising. Rucho and his colleagues have repeatedly demonstrated contempt for those less fortunate or less wealthy by rejecting the Medicaid expansion and the unemployment extension, in their efforts to undermine voting rights of those challenged by mobility, finances or time and by their abysmal treatment of public educators.

Let’s respond with contempt for their ignorance of history, their insensitivity to their own constituents and their cruelty to those in need. Vote them out.

Ronni Margolin
