Susan E. Moore: Skvarla’s misleading ‘fact’

December 19, 2013

Regarding DENR Secretary John Skvarla’s Dec. 19 letter “Customer-friendly DENR”: Skvarla just doesn’t get it – or, more likely, he precisely gets it. Citing the fact that many of the positions cut in the Division of Water Resources were vacant as a defense for protecting the environment is sadly laughable. When vacant positions are eliminated, generally the responsibilities of those positions are shifted to remaining employees, who already have a full workload. This hardly seems like a strategy to speed the process of environmental permitting or rigorously enforce environmental regulations. Oh, I see ... yes, he gets it all right.
