Shop Talk reporter Virginia Bridges asked small-business owners if they could have one Christmas wish, what it would be. This is what they said.

• “Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas this year is for the Affordable Care Act to actually be affordable for a Main Street business,” said Brian Mullins, owner of Brian Mullins Photography in Apex. “The amount of time and effort my company has already invested into determining what we must provide and spend is a far cry from affordable.”

• “My business is all about working with people interested in exploring franchise business ownership, learning about them, and then introducing them to a business model that meets their income, lifestyle, wealth and equity goals,” said Daniel A. Prendergast, owner of the Entrepreneur’s Source, a franchise owner recruiting firm in Mebane. “My wish would be that my clients currently in business are all tracking towards this and are enjoying the many benefits of business ownership.”

• “My one Christmas wish would be that everyone, everywhere gets to spend their holidays with the people they care about the most,” said Brian Mergenthaler, a Durham artist who works with salvaged metal for his company, Mergworks.

• “To know that we realized a profitable year, have healthy staff and that they truly enjoy their jobs,” said Janice Cutler, owner of North Raleigh Florist.
