RALEIGH — It has been a weekend of record warmth in the Triangle, but an approaching cold front is going to make it feel like December again soon.
The temperature at Raleigh-Durham International Airport reached record highs on both Saturday and Sunday, breaking records that have stood since a winter heat wave in 1967.
The high Saturday was 74, besting the old record by 3 degrees. Sunday was even warmer, hitting 78 at RDU.
Forecasters expect rain to arrive ahead of the front this evening, and continue Monday as temperatures drop from the low 70s to around 40 overnight. Tuesday should be sunny but brisk, with a gusty north wind, leading to temperatures below freezing on Christmas morning.
