Durham deputies want to question man in Dec. 11 homicide

From staff reportsDecember 23, 2013

— County sheriff’s investigators are looking for a man who may know something about the Dec. 11 death of a man found slain in a house at 212 Andrews Chapel Road.

Investigators appealed to the public for help finding Alex Antonio Cruz Alvarado, 33, who they said also goes by Alex Lainez.

Alvarado has not been charged with killing Saul Botello Abrimz, 31, but he is wanted on a charge of stealing a car. Sheriff’s deputies said Alvarado may be driving a white 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with N.C. license plate BMP-3978.

Alvarado has had several addresses in Durham, said sheriff’s office spokesman Paul Sherwin, and also might have fled to Conroe, Texas, or the town of San Pedro in Honduras.

Patrol deputies found Abrimz dead of multiple gunshot wounds on the evening of Dec. 11, and investigators said at the time that it appeared to be a drug-related slaying.

Sherwin asked anyone with information about Alvarado's whereabouts to call Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200 or the Sheriff's Crime Tip Line at 919-560-7151.

CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of persons wanted in felony crimes, and callers never have to identify themselves.
