Two passengers die in Capital Boulevard car crash

From staff reportsDecember 23, 2013

— Two passengers died while the driver of a 1997 Ford Mustang survived a collision with a tree off Capital Boulevard early Monday, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

Officers responded at 2 a.m. to a crash just north of the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Peace Street. Jose Luis Montero-Garcia, 24, had been driving the Mustang south on Capital Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle.

Montero-Garcia “over corrected” as the vehicle struck a cement lane divider, sending the car off the roadway to the right, where it struck the tree.

Montero-Garcia’s passengers – Cesar Hernandez-Medrano, 38, and Jamie Gamino-Gaona, 27, – died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to police. Emergency responders took Montero-Garcia to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators announced no charges Monday evening pertaining to the crash, pending completion of the accident report.
