Area fishing report

Saltwater

Buxton/Hatteras

Puppy drum fishing is going well at the point and at the jetties. There have been a few reports of black drum and flounder biting near the point as well. Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Inshore, trout and puppy drum are still biting. Offshore, weather conditions have been poor, but there have been some reports of wahoo and black sea bass. Topsail Island

There have been a few reports of speckled trout in the surf caught on mirror lures. Also, smaller speckled trout and large red drum have been biting on the sound side. Offshore report is not available. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Freshwater

Kerr Lake

There have been reports of crappies biting on various live baits. Striped bass have been biting on jigs, baby shad, and minnows at depths of 12 to 30 feet. Additionally, striped bass have been found more in creeks than in the main lake. Water level: normal 300, Monday 297.45, full pool 320.
