Susan Prillman: Celebrating birth of Christ

December 26, 2013

My husband and I have read, re-read and discussed the Dec. 22 editorial “The light renews” and still can’t figure out what the writer was trying to say. “The winter solstice, soon followed by Christmas, is to combine heavenly events designed to foil the demons of winter.” Huh? “We learned to venerate the evergreen” ... really?

The editorial seemed desperate to avoid the reality that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, Son of God, savior of the world. That’s what Christmas is, by definition, and calling it by any other name, or describing or celebrating it in any other way, does not change what it is. It is Christmas. And “the weary world rejoices”!
