Player to watch
J.P. Tokoto, forward, North Carolina
Tokoto’s confidence has blossomed in recent weeks. He’s coming off the best game of his time at UNC: 22 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and five steals during the Tar Heels’ overtime victory against Davidson on Saturday. During the past 15 seasons, Tyler Hansbrough is the only other UNC player who had at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the same game. Tokoto also made five of six free throws against Davidson, after going 4-for-16 from the line in a loss against Belmont earlier this season.
Observations: UNC made a season-high 34 free throws in the victory against Davidson, and 11 of 12 in overtime. Still, UNC is shooting 61.3 percent from the free-throw line for the season. If that pace holds, this would be the worst free-throw shooting team in school history. … Northern Kentucky reclassified to Division I last season. All 12 of its players have started at various times this season, and 11 average at least 12 minutes of playing time per game.
