Steve Kagan: Too much entitlement

December 27, 2013

In his Dec. 9 Point of View “Federal job program would fix economy,” professor William Darity Jr. supports the creation of a federal jobs program that would “create a federal job guarantee for all citizens.”

I actually forced myself to read the article while suppressing waves of laughter and nausea. Just what we need, another entitlement program for a nation with a $17 trillion national debt and current entitlements that comprise nearly 48 percent of the federal budget.

I can think of two jobs we should not include in the jobs program: Arts and Sciences professor of Public Policy, African and African-American Studies and Economics; and director of the research network on Racial and Ethnic Inequality.
