Liz Smith: Lumps and likes

December 28, 2013

Thank you for the photo and news article Dec. 22 with the headline “Couple have Bragging rights” about a same-sex couple being married, with family, faith and future buoying them. A promising start.

But there also was the news article “Outside counsel to monitor AG Cooper” where we found out House Speaker Thom Tillis and Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger have hired attorney Byron Babione from Arizona to peek over the shoulder of our attorney general regarding the N.C. constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Who gets coal this year? Berger and Tillis. By the way, who is paying Babione’s hourly rate? Someone from Arizona? What is the precedent for this action?

Who gets presents? The U.S. military, which, once again, is paving a way to social justice for all Americans.

Thanks again for the good coverage you provide of our state. Watch the person from Arizona who is watching us. It makes for great irony and a good story!
