Matchup to Watch

Kemba Walker vs. Chris Paul: Paul is the prototypical NBA point guard these days. Walker is on the rise, more as a scorer than a pure facilitator.

Observations

• The Clippers are being challenged for the Pacific Division by, strangely enough, the Phoenix Suns. Lottery-bound as the Suns appeared preseason, they just clobbered the Clippers in Los Angeles 107-88, and trail the Clippers by only 1 1/2 games.

• The Clippers committed 20 turnovers in that Suns game. They have lost three of their last four.

• The Bobcats are now on a three-game losing streak and this West Coast swing – Clipprs, Blazers and Kings – could extend that streak considerably. Coach Steve Clifford says his team can be, and must be, exceptional as defenders and rebounders to win this season.

• Ex-Bobcat Jared Dudley has built a long and solid NBA career based on versatility and savvy. He’s great at sizing up what teammates don’t do and focusing on filling those gaps.

Tap-ins

• Former Duke star J.J. Redick is still out for the Clippers with a broken hand.

• Shelby’s Alvin Gentry, who interviewed for the Bobcats’ head-coaching job, is now Doc Rivers’ top assistant with the Clippers.

• The Clippers have won five straight over the Bobcats.

Did you know?

Ex-Bobcat Stephen Jackson made his first 3-pointer of the season, after going 0-of-12 from the arc for the Clippers.
