Saltwater

Buxton/Hatteras

Plenty of puppy drum have been caught in the ocean-side surf. There also have been reports of black drum, flounder, speckled trout and shark catches. Offshore reports were not available. Southport/Sunset Beach

From the piers and in the surf, anglers are catching good whiting, bluefish, trout and puppy drum. There also are reports of trout and drum in the backwaters. Freshwater

Falls Lake

Largemouth bass have been caught on spoons and jigs. The crappies are biting on minnows at the lower end of the lake, in 15 to 20 feet of water. The catfish are biting on chicken livers, nightcrawlers and other live baits. High, muddy waters could alter conditions this week. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 253.82, full pool 264.8.
