Wayne Muller: Plum appointment

January 2, 2014

Regarding your Dec. 30 item “Former US Rep. Bob Etheridge lands federal job”: Does this surprise anyone? Why is it that the rich and powerful can never just fade away? Why is it that the common man can never get a fair shot at making common sense changes to government issues? Etheridge just can’t seem to find a job making minimum wage like so many North Carolinians. Now he’ll be making $144,000 plus, because President Obama appointed him to run the state’s Farm Service Agency. I bet there are a thousand North Carolina-based farmers right now who are saying, “Darn, I could have run this agency for half his salary.”

As long as the common man continues to sit back and allow political appointments to occur time and time again, this state and country will never change for the better.
