Dave Rogers: Power in our hands

January 4, 2014

I’d like to thank Tim McGloin for his powerful Point of View piece regarding America’s responsibility in the fight to stop climate change (“ ‘Who is to live and who is to die’ ” Dec. 18). I agree that wealthier nations have a duty to lead the way. Fortunately for us, we have the technology to do that. All that’s lacking is the political will.

Between wind and solar power, we can power our lives in a way that doesn’t cause global warming. In North Carolin,a we’ve started the transition, but the reality is we are just scratching the surface of what’s possible. Imagine if every home, school, factory and office building had solar panels on their rooftops, producing much of the power they use every day. Wouldn’t that be a great place to live?
