The Canes on Sunday recalled forward Aaron Palushaj from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) while placing goalie Cam Ward and forward Riley Nash on injured reserve, both retroactive to Dec. 31

In another personnel move, the Canes activated defenseman Jay Harrison off injured reserve. Harrison has missed six games after a concussion.

Palushaj, 24, has played in all 34 of the Checkers’ games this season and leads the team in assists (19) and points (28).

Palushaj has played in 66 career NHL regular-season games with Montreal and Colorado, scoring three goals and earning 11 assists (14 points). He had a goal and two assists, establishing a career high with three points, for the Avs in a game against the Nashville Predators last season.

He signed with Carolina as a free agent on July 11, 2013, and has not played a game for the Canes.
