Kick off 2014 with one of these healthy cooking classes

If you need some inspiration to eat healthier in 2014, consider taking one of these cooking classes:

•  “Aromatic Whole Grain Brunch” is a class devoted to making sure the most important meal of the day (breakfast) is a healthy one. The menu includes a savory dal, a fruit porridge and a homemade granola. The class is at noon Jan. 19 at Whisk, a kitchenwares store in Cary. It costs $49 per person. •  “Meatless Monday” is a class inspired by the campaign to get people to eat vegetarian at least once a week. The menu includes smoky black bean soup with roasted sweet potatoes; porcini mushroom, chard and goat cheese in phyllo cups; whole-grain pasta with oven-roasted tomatoes; pistachios and sage pesto; spinach with Indian spices and homemade cheese. •  “Healthy and Delicious Cooking” is a class being offered at the Sur La Table store at Durham’s The Streets at Southpoint. The menu includes salmon and red quinoa salad with pistachios; braised chicken with kale and white bean stew; shaved Brussels sprouts with Parmesan and walnuts; and spiced pork medallions with citrus date relish.
