Allen Spalt: Creditless cartoon

January 9, 2014

There is a long tradition of cartoonists using, adapting and parodying the work of their colleagues. But it traditionally comes with a tag line such as “With a nod” to the original.

It is always a pleasure to get a reminder of a New Yorker classic by Charles Addams, as in the cartoon on Jan. 3 of President Obama skiing around (over? through?) a “Repeal Obamacare” tree blocking his path. But Jim Morin from The Miami Herald neglected to give any credit for the central idea of his drawing. Addams is dead but not beyond haunting Morin in retaliation.
