Laura Upchurch: Phones still work

January 9, 2014

Regarding the Jan. 3 letter “The worst is ahead”: Know what has been around a lot longer than the letter-writer’s 20-year job in the insurance industry? The phone!

I called BCBS, got through in 10 minutes, talked to a nice person who signed me up for the same insurance plan I already had. I am able to see the same doctors I had and am charged only $70 more a month, which I am happy to pay in order for someone who isn’t as well off as I am to get coverage.

Stop yelling at Obama for trying to help Americans get health insurance. I bet the writer isn’t one of those with cancer who has been turned down for coverage. We would have a different story then, I bet.
